If the relentlessly evolving virus becomes capable of human-to-human transmission, develops a power of contagion typical of human influenzas, and maintains its extraordinary virulence, humanity could well face a pandemic unlike any ever witnessed. Or nothing at all could happen.

The Chinese authorities have been caught distributing human antivirals to poultry farmers in a short-sighted attempt at stoppping the spread of the virus. The antivirals are meant for the poultry - providing the virus with a perfect chance to build up a resistance before it merrily transfers onto us.
