Tony’s getting tough

Another very good press conference by Tony Blair, where he outlined the new security measures in twelve points (“the rules of the game are changing”, he said). Later, he answered questions from the press and took the opportunity to explain, yet again, his views on the war on terror which I shall summarize using his own words:

“You come here, you play by our rules”

I have been waiting to hear these words for so long…

France, Spain, The Netherlands, Italy are all implementing stricter rules regarding asylum, deportation, extradition. Patriot Act, anyone? Why did it take so many dead to start thinking rationally?

Believe or not, a journalist again asked him if he conceded that the London bombings had been triggered by the UK presence in Iraq, as Ayman al-Zawahri said in his latest video (I suspect this journalist is always the same guy, probably planted there by the government); this was Blair’s reply:

He added: "These very self same people who were making those remarks yesterday are the people supporting the killing of wholly innocent people in Iraq, wholly innocent people in Afghanistan, innocent people anywhere in the world who want to live by the rules of democracy."

Is it so difficult? Even the Guardian might come to understand it in time.
