South Africa speeding towards the abyss

Publius Pundit has an interesting article that explains Mbeki fascination with Mugabe's policies:

The government in South Africa has always been making attempts at “racial justice,” but it has been generally by market means. They want to have at least 30% of the land transferred to black farmers by 2014, though only an estimated 5% has switched hands fairly. So what happens when the market just doesn’t work out the way you want it to? You use the government, of course! And with only ten years to meet that socialist quota, drastic measures must of course be taken.

One would think that the example right at their northern doorstep would give them pause; apparently it does not. They prefer to pander to the masses, destroy the country (because this is what will happen) and go with the flow (appease the communist ANC).

Publius does not mention the fact that 1500 white farmers have been killed in the last decade in South Africa and the Government has been very quiet about it; also he does not mention that another Mugabe admirer, President Hifikepunye Pohamba of Namibia, is taking his country in the same direction (but Swapo and ANC were good comrades).

So Mbeki is quietly preparing the way:

…Mbeki restated the government's belief in a bigger role for the state in the economy…

Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
