Double standards

I learn from today’s Il Foglio another example of Spanish (Zapaterish) hypocrisy. Miguel Moratinos, Zapatero’s Foreign Minister, during his visit to the Middle East, has reiterated his government request to Israel to suspend the construction of the wall/fence that protects the country from terror attacks, saying that such a barrier hinders communication between peoples and it is an unacceptable symbol of separation.

The funny thing is that Melilla, the Spanish enclave in Morocco, just to stop immigrants has a three meters tall border fence, with watch towers, topped by barbed wire and a road running between them to accommodate police patrols. Underground cables connect spotlights, noise and movement sensors, and video cameras to a central control booth.

The Spanish government intends to double the height of the barrier soon.
